A: Hello- The wood needs to be sealed when you purchase it and then every 6 months to a year after that. We do not recommend any certain brand.

Q:We are installing this pergola on a paver patio that will have 1 inch slope every 8 feet. We are pouring concrete footers for the pergola. Do you recommend having the footers completely level or just have the footers follow the slope of the patio?

A: We only recommend a 1inch grade every ten feet. Since you are pouring footers try to place these even with each other, this way you do not have any issues later in the assembly.

After a year I notice being toasted by sun.
I paid more than $2000 for this pergola las year (May 2023). I was expecting something sturdy and to last longer. I followed manufacturer recommendation and applied two layers of water proof paint, right after assembly. I notice the table is being toasted by sun and the bolts do not hold it properly. It has a nice looking for sure, but it is not sturdy enough to stand by the environment. Unfortunately I can’t recommend it.

It is solid wood
I was extremely disappointed. The material was so light. It is not real cedar. It is pine that is stained. The post are not solid wood. They are hollow inside so they are not strong.It is very light. I had a professionally installed and assembled. I found that the material was so thin and low quality you can’t hang anything. I had wanted to hang a bench or a swinging egg chair but I was told that the wood wouldn’t be strong enough to hold much weight. which was the main reason I wanted a pergola

Aestheically pleasing
Very happy with my purchase a year ago. Keep in mind this is a lengthy project. I had my two teenage boys put it together over a long weekend. It was their first major project and there indeed was frustration on their part. Someone who has more experience will likely be able to construct it in less time, but nonetheless it is time consuming and would be very helpful if two worked together. I wish i would have clearcoated it first to preserve the color and wood. I will be doing it this year. I get compliments everytime someone is in the backyard.

Nice pergola
This pergola was pretty easy to assemble. And the finished product looks great. After getting the parts sorted (of which there are MANY!) things went together well. It took 3 of us (2 doing most of the work and one as a helper/gofer) about 8 hours. Things fit together amazingly well. Watch where the pre drilled holes are when putting items together to make sure they are in the correct position for the next steps. (Learned our lesson when we had to redo one section). Definitely a good choice.

Good product
Fit together good some of the smaller pre drilled holes didn’t line up but that’s not a problem. Seems very sturdy and looks great. I did add a roof to it for shade. Shipping was a little slow it took almost two weeks to get it but it was in good condition when it arrived.

MY OUTDOOR PEACE
It's been a year since my cousin and his teenage son put this up, less than 8 hours. Everyone I show pictures and video to has fallen in love along with myself! I will not write this review without giving the highest compliment to customer service. They were extremely helpful and took care of an issue right away with no questions asked. I did follow recommendations and spent a little extra money for a more secure base because I live in Florida 🌀 Oh and I love the power box. Don't let anything doubt you with purchasing from Backyard Discovery, you won't be disappointed! 🥰

Assembled today
Very impressed w the kit. At the price point and w Chinese cedar (whatever that is), I was concerned about quality but I expect this to last a long time. Tip - follow the instructions to not tighten it up until the end when you square it up. My concrete slab slopes slightly away from the house and one corner is a little low but with the bolts not fully tight, it settled into a happy posture if not perfectly square. See the pics, looks great.

Great Product
