ALEX drawer unit, white, 141/8x271/2" - IKEA (2024)

Love these!JackieBought 3 of these for a DIY desk. Put an 8’ butcher block on top and it looks amazing!!!5

Slights damage on arrival and expensive shippingJacobThe Alex drawers are well engineered and machined. They are easy to assemble and the drawers and frame fit together firmly and with a quality generally higher than other disassembled furniture manufacturers. However, my Alex drawers arrived with damage they incurred while in shipping - a service that cost the same price as the drawer itself...2

It’s cute but doesn’t open all the wayBonnieI love the Alex cabinet. It’s easy to assemble and affordable. My only complaint, and it’s significant, is that you can’t access the back 25% of every drawer. It’s like a black hole! You cannot see in there at all. I understand that ikea is afraid the cabinet will fall forward but it still seems lame to lose so much space in a storage cabinet.4

Drawers don't align even after disassembling and reassemblingJasmineI took my time doing this on my own, but after I was finished, the drawers are slanted. They can slide in and out, but the drawers are all leaning to the left. I decided to disassemble them, but even after inspecting the pieces, I feel like it might be that my item has flaws. There were some points that seemed slanted to me, so I don't know. It works, but you can clearly tell that all my drawers are leaning to the right for some reason, but everything is in the right place and nothing seems to make it lean right when I disassembled the item. 3

Cabinet is a great value at a great price. LeahCabinet is a great value at a great price. Love the all the drawers and flexibility and customization available with this line. Used with LAGKAPTEN desk top.5

AlexAllisonWorked out perfectly in my DIY custom closet! Although it’s not wide, it is very deep!5

Needs better draw slides, otherwise great.IanEverything went together easily and quickly, right until installing the drawers onto the slides. That required a lot of force to get them on, and they won't easily come out either. I wish ALEX had the great roller slides that are used on countless other IKEA drawer units (such as those under BRIMNES beds, or MICKE drawers), but these are simple friction slides that just aren't up the same (great) quality as the rest of ALEX.This drawer unit is wonderfully solid and stable due to the solid back plate holding everything square. It looks great, and the five drawers add a lot of usable storage.I'm not sure why white is $20 cheaper than the two other colors though.4

Love it!!!MaritzaI totally love it. 5

Good for the priceMaenOverall installation was straight forward, but has a few questions on which part to use for the top and bottom as the instruction booklet was written for 3 different situations. The drawers design was good as the sliding drawer guides were already built in. However, these same sliders make a clicking noise when you open or close the drawer. these sliders also open half way which makes seeing what is stored in the drawers hard to see.3

UPDATED review - Quality Declined DrasticallySaiI've been using Alex drawers for several years, but my recent purchase has been disappointing. After assembling the new unit, I found that the drawers don't slide smoothly and emit a bothersome clacking noise. It’s a pain to spend time assembling it, only to consider driving a couple of hours to return it, which is such a waste of time. It's so irritating that I've had to set the drawers aside instead of using them.I even picked up a replacement, but discovered the first two drawers had incorrectly drilled holes right in the groove, forcing me to make yet another trip. When I assembled the third replacement, to my dismay, it was missing four essential screws, leaving me unable to complete the bottom drawer. At this point, I'm utterly frustrated. WHAT DOES IKEA EXPECT ME TO DO NOW? Make ANOTHER LENGTHY DRIVE to return and replace this unit AGAIN?I'M AT MY WIT'S END and honestly, I'm done with this hassle.1

Love my Alex!ChristineI have four Alex h it’s which I use in my craft room. They hold a lot of products and helps me keep everything tidy. 5

Disappointed QueenI was truly excited to put my dream desk together. First Alex drawer went well. Second drawer not so much. The preinstalled rails are not lined up correctly. I would have to take the whole desk apart to pre-drill holes to realign the rails properly. I'm just so sad. 3

so so, the feet are terribleAndrewThe quality of these items has slipped. You can tell because now the buckles holding the outside together aren't even cheap metal anymore, they're plastic. The single shelf unit had metal buckles. The other REALLY cheap item is the feet. They're hard plastic with a bit of sticky glue on top. Not a lot of glue either. As soon as you slide these across the floor the feet pop off. For an extra buck they could of have included little rubber feet with cheap screws. This is luckily all going in a back room. Hopefully it won't collapse under the weight of the table top I'm putting on them. I bought 3 because I didn't think 2 would support it.3

JunkWilliamFive years ago, Alex drawer units were quality and a good value. In 2024, they are half the quality at twice the price. If you happen to have an older unit, and have the opportunity to compare them side by side, you will see exactly what I'm talking about. The quality of the finish is awful now, the drawer slides are inferior, the fit tolerances are way down. Shockingly, the quality of the particle board that they use is abysmal. You would be hard pressed to find such low quality material at a big box store. No one would buy it. I'm not even sure that a 4x8 sheet would make it out the door without snapping in half. Ikea made a choice to make the original Alex at a specific level of quality to hit a price point. This current version is a shadow of the former product. 1

Pretty & ComplicatedRiaPersonally the wood was fragile and too brittle for my liking. That made building frustrating. The tracks on the drawers isn’t so smooth, it does get stuck and the drawers won’t slide out. Overall I really like the look. But it probably should come with thicker wood, some of the pieces could have come more attached like the track. As well as making the track for the drawers easier to slide. Nothing was broken on the drawers but It could have been more sturdy, less delicate, & smoother opening. For better value 3/5. I do love IKEA pieces cause they are so creative i am sorry i went all in on this product but i did have higher expectation's. 3

Worth Every PennyMelissaI absolutely love my Alex drawers. They are sturdy and have a great amount of space in the drawers to keep all of my stuff in. Putting them together was pretty easy with following the pictures. I would recommend the Alex drawers highly. I used them as a base for the tabletop sold through ikea. 5

Very FunctionalAnonymousWe already had one of these drawer units. When it came time to reorganize a home office, we decided to purchase two more units because we really liked the look and capacity of the drawers. 5

Beautiful KarolineBeautiful 5
